When residential, commercial or industrial developers install noise-producing fixed equipment, or community residents lodge complaints, municipalities often require acoustic assessments to establish whether municipal noise bylaw limits have been exceeded.
BAP Acoustics regularly conducts such acoustic assessments, and issues reports to support our clients’ permit applications and/or bylaw compliance investigations. We also work with clients to design or redesign spaces in alignment with municipal criteria.
Equipment typically requiring noise bylaw assessments includes restaurant exhaust fans, exterior air conditioning units (“heat-pumps”), emergency generators, roof-top machinery, and parking garage fans.
The City of Vancouver (CoV) also requires acoustic assessments to support new liquor license applications, existing premises re-design and alterations, as well as operating hours extensions. In addition to acoustic assessment results, CoV often requests reports that document noise mitigating recommendations should levels exceed bylaw limits.
