UBC Rec North

A modern gym with large windows features treadmills, workout machines, and exercise balls. Several people are exercising inside.

We are currently working with Shape Architecture and UBC Properties Trust in the design of the new Rec North recreation centre. The building features fitness studios and gymnasia on suspended floor slabs above noise sensitive space – multi-purpose rooms, offices and meeting rooms. We have used finite element analysis to model the effect of impact vibration and have calculated the levels of noise reradiated to the noise sensitive spaces below. We have used our analysis to inform the design team and help steer selection of the best structural systems. For more information regarding the project, click here.
